First-ever retreat at Tergar Samadhi

This retreat marks a special milestone as the first-ever retreat held at Tergar Samadhi — a place in Podentes, Portugal, created to support the deepening of study, contemplation, and meditation practice within the lineage of Mingyur Rinpoche. Gathering here for the first time carries special significance: together, as we will establish this retreat tradition at Tergar Samadhi.

This is also the first time AAM is being offered in a container designed to support continuous practice — not just a weekend or a course, but an entire week to explore how to connect with awareness and other innate qualities in every aspect of your day.

Why AAM as a retreat?

Designed by Mingyur Rinpoche, AAM is a simple yet profound program that makes meditation practice accessible, fresh, and deeply meaningful for modern life.

AAM is for real life and is based on the simple insight that you can meditate anytime, anywhere, under any circumstance.

In retreat, that intention becomes even more tangible. Over the course of the retreat, you will practice awareness, compassion, and wisdom in silence and in conversation, in stillness and in ordinary daily activities.

Returning to the core instructions throughout the week, stepping out of auto-pilot, reducing distractions, and following a steady daily rhythm with experienced guides will support confidence and familiarity, so that “anytime, anywhere” becomes something you can actually rely on when you go home.

What will you learn?

During the AAM retreat, you will learn:

  • Meditation as a way to discover inner well-being
  • Awareness, compassion, and wisdom as qualities that are always present within you
  • How to work with distractions, emotions, and everyday situations as part of the path
  • How to develop a steady meditation habit
  • How to apply meditation in real-life situations, with ease and confidence

Each day will include guided meditation, awareness yoga, periods of silence, teachings, and time for reflection and discussion.

Natural environment

Tergar Samadhi is set in a stunning, natural environment, situated in a large rural area, with grape vines, olive groves, a lake, roman pathways, and ancient oak woods. Surrounded by nature and removed from the fast pace of daily life, this setting supports turning inward while remaining relaxed and grounded — allowing your mind to settle and your practice to deepen.

Supportive boundaries

To make the most of this retreat, we ask participants to observe supportive retreat boundaries. This includes maintaining silence during designated times, limiting the use of phones and outside communication, and committing to the schedule as fully as possible. These guidelines create the conditions in which deeper awareness and insight can naturally develop for you and others.

We welcome everyone — experienced practitioners and those totally new to meditation.
